世界のKARATE
WORLDWIDE KARATEDO
日本の伝統的スポーツとして受け継がれてきた空手道は、今や国際的スポーツとして世界各国(164カ国)で約4000万人に親しまれるようになりました。それというのもKARATEが単に技を磨き強くなることだけでなく、その中で心身ともにすぐれた人間形成という素晴らしいスピリットがあり、その精神が国籍の違いを越えて広く理解されてきたからであります。
現在、世界空手連盟(World Karate Federation = WKF)は、ヨーロッパ空手道49カ国、アジア空手道連合35カ国、汎アメリカ空手道連合36カ国、アフリカ空手道連合38カ国及びオセアニア空手道連合6カ国から構成され、そのうち136カ国のオリンピック委員会や権威あるスポーツ行政組織に認定されております。
そして世界選手権大会は2年毎の開催、また各地域に於いても各連合体が中心となって世界大会と、隔年毎に2年に1回開催(アジア地域に於いても2年毎アジア空手道選手権大会を開催)しており、グローバルスポーツKARATEを通して、世界の人々の友好と親善を深めております。
東京世界女子空手道選手権大会は、日本で開催する唯一の女子世界選手権大会で、1990年に第1回福岡世界女子空手道選手権大会が開催され、毎年1回、福岡で開催されていたが、1995年度より、さらなる空手道の普及・発展を願って第1回の大会が東京で開催された。
Karatedo handed down as a traditional Japanese sport, has now spread internationally among 164 countries and regions, and about forty million people now include Karatedo a part of their training.
This is because Karatedo aims not only at the improvement of techniques, but also at the formation of character, of a sound body and spirit.
The World Karate Federation is composed of five Continental Union, namely the European Karate Union (49 nations), the Asian Union of Karatedo Organisations (35 natios), the Pan American Union of Karatedo Organizations (36 nations), The Union of African Karatedo Federations (38 nations) and the Oceania Union of Karate Organisations (6 nations) of which 136 national federations are recognised by their national Olympic Committee or their Highest Sports Authorities.
The World Karatedo Championship is organised every two years, and every other year each Continental Union organises their own championships. Through this global sport "Karate", we strengthen our mutual friendships throughout the world.
The Ladies' International Karate Cup is the only championship organised in Japan for women competitors. The First Ladies' Cup was held in Fukuoka in 1990, and was then held every year until 1994, when it was decided to hold this cup in Tokyo from 1995 for the further development and prosperity of Karatedo.
