Report from Prof. K. Shoji
The 45th IMO/NAV session was held from September 20 to 25, 1999 at the IMO headquarter with the representative with a total of 303 participants, 228 from 57 countries and 75 from related organizations, present.
Prof. K. Shoji, former chairman of SC 6, attend it as the representing ISO. The followings is a report on the outline of the session regarding the matters on ISO/TC8/SC6.
1. Ergonomic Criteria for Bridge Equipment and Layout
The Sub-Committee gave initial consideration to the report of the Intersessional Correspondence Group coordinated by Germany (NAV 45/6) including a draft performance standard on Ergonomic Criteria for Bridge Equipment and Layout and was of the opinion such criteria should be developed in the form of Guidelines.
Unfortunately, due to lack of time the Sub-Committee could not complete the work and invited the Committee to extend the target completion date for the agenda item "Guidelines on Ergonomic criteria for bridge equipment and layout" to the year 2000 and include this item in the provisional agenda for NAV 46.
Members were invited to consider NAV 45/6 and submit their comments and proposals to the next session of the Sub-Committee for consideration and decision, as appropriate.
Relevant ISO standard (ISO 14612) will be revised later on.
2. World-wide Radionavigation System
The Sub-Committee was of the opinion that developments reflected in the attached report to NAV 45/7/4 could be used, to some extent, for review of resolution A.860(20) and invited Members to consider the report and submit their comments and proposals to NAV 46 for consideration with a view to revising resolution A.860(20).
Relevant IEC standards will be revised later on.
