6.4 Standardisation Approach of Electric Component Dictionary in ECALS-2 Project - National Panasonic (by Fumio Tanaka)
ECALS-2/WG1
The previous standard was based upon IEC61360. Explanations of the formation of ECALS-2 project were given. It is basically related to electrical components and devices. The present dictionary standard is based in the IEC62360 that used class, property value list and data model for class and property as the core for the product model. The ECALS-2 uses the IEC61360-4 and proposes to use more detailed Classification. If needed propose actions to the IEC. Data model for template is ISO13584-42.
The architecture of the ECALS-2 is based on a database that can be accessed via internet where a user make a request for a certain part and get from the system as answer the URL of the supplier of the part. ECALS-2 explains that PLIB is difficult to use because of lack of tools and manuals. However the CSV is easy to translate to XML.
The dictionary is the same as the IEC but changes the point of view for a more practical applicability of the dictionary. To maintain the dictionary with its practical use point of view ECALS-2 proposes a ballot in the extranet server where everybody interested could see the proposals for new class and properties and vote in it if required.
Schedule for the ECALS-2: Dec.1998 start, Jan 1999 draft, April 99 first version for experiment, July 99 revised version, Dec.99 end of the program and inherited by the EIAJ. More 300.000 data shits are include in the program, every equipment designed in Japan would require more than 1 million datasheets.
