Terms of reference
1 The Sub-Committee decided, at its forty-first session (NAV 41/23) to amalgamate the Correspondence Groups (DE 38/11 ) on Standardization of Bridge Layout and the one on Ergonomic Criteria for Bridge Equipment to form the present Working on Ergonomic Criteria for Bridge Equipment and Layout.
2 The Sub-Committee, was of the opinion that due to the importance and the implication of the human factor issue that IMO is the international body which could ensure an adequate consideration in a holistic manner. For this reasons it was decided that IMO should develop a comprehensive standard on Ergonomic Criteria for Bridge Equipment and Layout. This conclusion was confirmed by the Sub-Committee at NAV 42 as well as at NAV 43.
Conduct of the Correspondence Group
3 Members of the correspondence group included Australia Canada, Denmark, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, the United States and the following non-governmental organizations: International Radio Maritime Committee (CIRM), International Maritime Pilot Association (IMPA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
