5 REPORT OF THE SECRETARIAT
At the request of the Convener, the acting Secretary provided a brief summary of the current status of standards currently under development by the working group.
6 DEVELOPMENT OF DRAFT STANDARDS
The working group considered the latest draft of ISO/CD 17631 Safety Plans, taking into account the decisions taken at the previous meeting (London 1999-03-15/16) as reflected in Annexes 3 and 4 to the official report of that meeting, the Secretary's summary of comments received in response to the CD ballot, comments submitted by Japan and Fincantieri Shipyard (Italy) for consideration at this meeting, and editorial comments supplied by the ISO Central Secretariat. A summary of actions taken in response to the comments is provided in Annex 2. A copy of the basic standard, incorporating all of the refinements agreed by the group, is provided as Annex 3. The color annexes A and B to the standard will be provided separately by e-mail after the revisions agreed by the group have been incorporated.
The working group discussed whether B-class divisions should be colored blue, as on the present draft, or yellow as is currently in use on many existing plans. The group considered that blue could be too easy to confuse with black, and agreed to change the color for B-class subdivisions to yellow in Annex A to the draft standard.
The group considered a comment by the ISO Central Secretariat that the emergency telephone symbol 1.52 should be colored red rather than green for consistency with ISO 6309 and ISO 3864. The group disagreed, since on ship, these phones can be used for safety-related communication as well as for strictly fire protection purposes.
The working group instructed the Secretary and Convener to make the appropriate editorial revisions as agreed by the group, and accordingly prepared the following resolution:
Resolution 24 Registration of ISO/CD 17631 as DIS
The working group approves the submission of ISO/CD 17631 to the ISO Central Secretariat for registration as a DIS.
The task group assigned at the last meeting did not, as planned, make significant progress on ISO/WD 17338 Symbols for structural fire protection. Mr. Abbate indicated he had made some progress on a working draft, which he would circulate to members for comment in due course. He distributed some preliminary working documents to the group for information.
