Rules for dealing with late work items as from 1 January 1999:
-if a work item has not progressed for two years or more, the responsible committee shall provide justification for its retention in the work programme, taking into account the market need for this standard.

-if a work item has not reached publication stage after seven years or longer, it will automatically be cancelled.

-and, should the committee wish to continue such a work item, it shall re-ballot a new work item proposal and, if the acceptance criteria are met, it shall register the work item as a new project.
