10. Unfortunately, the report of the 26th meeting of the ISO/TC 8 Advisory Group does not refer to this matter. Furthermore, the report contained only one short sentence regarding the liaison with IACS, which does not address this matter either.
11. With reference to document ISO/TC8 N1000R2 dated 1998-08-06 titled "Ships and Marine Technology - Status Report". IACS recognises that an extensive work programme is being undertaken by the subsidiary bodies of TC8 on wide spread work areas.
12. IACS has reviewed the document, in particular Annex A which contains "List of IMO-link-NR's" in the light of the outcome of the meeting held in the office of Mr Mitropoulos, and the reports of MEPC 41 and MSC 69 with regard to the work of IACS and ISO.
13. IACS considers that there are some items which need mutual cooperation in order to avoid confusion between the work of the IACS Members and ISO. They are:-
No.3 Bulk Carrier Safety;
No.35 Corrosion prevention system for seawater ballast tanks;
No.41 Intact stability of double hull tankers; and
No.56 Wash bulkheads in cargo tanks for double hull tankers.
14. IACS is sure that TC 8 Members will agree that these items fall within the scope of work of IACS and its Member Societies. IACS requests that TC 8 Members review these items in the light of the outcome of discussions held with Mr Mitropoulos and the notes contained in the reports of MEPC 41 and MSC 69.
15. These items are marked with an "R" in the table of Annex A as indicating "Requested" by IMO. However, the indication to the last three items should be justified in the light of dicisions taken by IMO and reports of their meetings.
16. IACS would appreciate your consideration of the matters raised above and requests that this document be made available for consideration at the 17th meeting of ISO/TC 8 as well as the 27th meeting of the Advisory Group scheduled to meet at Maldon, Essex, UK on 12-14 October 1998.
Yours sincerely,
