During breaks in the DE 42 meeting, the ISO representative was approached by representatives from two Member Governments, Brazil and Israel, with requests for information on how they could participate in the development of ISO standards. The representative from Brazil was the newly elected Vice-Chairman of IMO DE for the year 2000, CAPT J.E.C.Rocha, Counselor for Maritime Affairs from the Brazilian Embassy in London. The representative from Israel was Dr.Ing. Dan Livneh, Chief Naval Architect, State of Israel, Ministry of Transport Administration of Shipping & Port in Haifa. Subsequent to the meeting, on 31 March 1999, the ISO representative sent letters to each of the above representatives from Brazil and Israel, with enclosures describing the work of ISO/TC 8 and showing them how they could arrange to participate in the development of ISO standards.
