side was not sufficient. However, at present it has become easy to obtain the information and related matters. The representatives of SC 6 attended the international meetings for draft consideration.
(2) ISO/DIS 694: Positioning of magnetic compasses
In accordance with the amending of the diagram (Diagram 1 - Minimum distance from the standard magnetic compasses) on the on-board positioning of the standard compass provided by the diagram of ISO/DIS 694 (closing date for voting: 1999-05-24), discrepancies are emerging between ISO/DIS 694's positioning and IMO Resolution A.382(X)'s positioning (shown in diagram) which is the root of ISO/DIS 694. To adjust the discrepancies, a draft amendment proposal of IMO resolution A.382(X) is under consideration.
(3) Standard for the content, quality and updating of Electronic Chart System (ECS) database
It was concluded that "Standard for the content, quality and updating of Electronic Chart System (ECS) database", proposed by the U.S. as an NWIP (designated as a work item of SC 9), should be designated as an NWIP of SC 6 (not of SC 9), and that this new designation should be more appropriate, after having consultation with Japanese experts of this area. The text is expected to be circulated soon to SC 6 members for voting to adopt it as an NWIP.
(4) IHO Specification M-4 (Navigational chart)
After the decision of ISO/TC 8/AG Lisbon meeting held last year, it was agreed that Mr.Abram would be responsible for the work of consultation with IHO.
Then, the SC 6 secretariat asked, via Mr.Abram, for IHO side's final confirmation of approval or disapproval in making IHO specification M-4 into an ISO standard.
However, to date, no response has been received from Mr.Abram or IHO.
(5) PWI: Searchlight for High Speed Craft (cf.MCS 69/20/3)
In order to have the subject matter proposed as an NWIP of SC 6 in accordance with the suggestion from Capt. Piersall, TC 8 Chairman, the SC 6 secretariat asked Mr.Schade to undertake not only the convener-ship of this project in Germany but also making the preparation for forwarding this NWIP. (see Annex)
