2.2. Results of case finding survey in 1999.
As a continuance of annual prevalence in Bohol, Kato-Katz stool examination was conducted by Bohol Team from January to July this year. Of4, 464 villagers in the four barangays (San Vicente, San Jose, Kinan-Oan and M. Cabigohan) examined, only 5 (0.11%) were egg positives. All the positives were treated with praziquantel.
2.3. Prevalence of scchistosomiasis japonica among schoolchildren after snail control and chemotherapy.
In order to know the current situation of the disease, a small amount of blood sample was taken from each school child of the grades I to III through finger prick and collected in a capillary tube for ELISA.The total number of the blood samples collected was 385, i.e., 118 in San Roque, 72 in Kinan-Oan, 83 in Sto, Tomas, 53 in M. Cabigohan and 59 in San Vicente.
3. Leyte
3.1. Prevalence surveys in domestic and wild animals
An attempt is being made to know the prevalence of Schistome infection among domestic and wild animals in San Juan, Sta. Fe, Leyte. Fecal specimens collected from 93 school children, 132 pigs and 4 dogs since February 1999 were examined in our laboratory, and the results obtained are as follows:
In the present survey, blood sample was taken from schoolchildren of the grades I to IV through finger prick and collected in a capillary tube for sero-diagnosis. The total number of the blood samples collected was 129.
4. Comments and recommendations
4.1. The measurement of antibody against egg antigen of Schistosoma japonicum by ELISA method will be carried out for all serum samples of the Department of Medical Zoology, Dokkyo University School of Medicine in Japan. The results will be informed for the purpose of schistosomiasis control to the SCT in Oriental Mindoro, Bohol and SRTD Leyte as soon as available.
4.2. Efforts should be continued to locate unknown snail sites based on data of the case-fnding survey.
4.3. It is required that clearing and mollusciciling at 3 months' intervals carried out not only in Bohol but also in Oriental Mindoro.
