TAKACHIHO II 280,000-dwt Double-Hull VLCC

 

TAKACHIHO II, a 280,000-dwt double-hull tanker ordered by Seaborn Enterprises S.A. of Panama, was completed at the Kure Shipyard of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI) in October 1998. It is the first ship of 280,000-dwt size double-hull VLCC series newly developed by IHI.

Optimized arrangement of cargo and ballast tanks, engine room, pump room and other compartments has achieved remarkably small gross tonnage for a vessel of this size.

This vessel shows superior economical performance on both worldwide trade and Persian Gulf-Japan trade with cargo loadability at shallow-draft condition.

The DU-Sulzer 7RTA84T top rating develops enough power to operate at service speed of over 16 knots.

 

Features

1. The cargo handling system is divided into three groups. Three (3) steam turbine-driven cargo oil pumps (each 5,000m3/h) are equipped, and an additional steam turbine-driven pump (2,400m3/h) are installed. Furthermore, two (2) cargo stripping eductors (each 1,100m3/h) are provided for tank cleaning and stripping operations.

2. For easy maintenance and inspection of double-hull water ballast tanks, four (4) tiers of continuous stringers are provided in the side of the tanks. Especially one (1) of them is located at approx. 3m below upper deck for close up inspection of upper part of structure.

3. Remote controlled valves are provided on the centerline bulk-head in double-hull water ballast tanks for ensuring ventilation of double-bottom space. Also, fixed flammable gas detection system for double-hull ballast tanks is installed.

4. Centralized fresh water cooling system is provided for main propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems for achieving longer life, less maintenance and easy operation.

5. Integrated bridge system, which is capable of ship's position calculating, ship's route planning, ship's route tracking, chart displaying, navigation data displaying and electronic chart producing, is installed.

6. For economic electric power generating during normal seagoing condition, thyrister inverter shaft generator controlled in combination with exhaust gas economizer's steam turbo generator is provided.
