Typical examples for the contact width of aft seal rings and the wear depth of aft liner are shown in Table 2 and Table 3 respectively. Although #2 seal ring of 3AS-Size 950 and #3 seal ring of 3AS-Size 800 have comparatively big contact width, the others of aft seal rings get very small width. In this connection, such a big contact width on #2 seal ring of 3AS-Size 950 was caused by the excessive oil pressure owing to the mishandling. Also, abnormal big width on #3 seal ring of 3AS-Size 800 was inflicted by many dross of welding remained in the oil piping lines.

All of aft liner show very small wear less than 0.1 mm depth except of the sliding part under #3 seal ring of 3AS-Size 800. As for #3 seal ring of 3AS-Size 800, it is obvious that dross of welding injured the sliding part on the liner.

 

4. Further development

As described aboves, AIRGUARD sealing system has many advantages compared with the conventinal seal. But ceaseless research carried out for further development.

In the ships equipped AIRGURAD, each ranges between maximum and minimum draft which changes acceding to the loading, that is, the differential height between L.W.L and B.W.L, were examined and summarized in Fig.12.
