reasonable return for re-investment on improvement in all respects with special enhancement on reliability and performance, because Japanese shipbuilders are still main providers of such feature.
1) To improve their efficiency, shipyards have to change their system based on CAE/CAD/CAM/CIM for design, production and production control. As have been said, errors must be eliminated completely before actual construction work starts, through simulation, etc. PDM will play an important role for this purpose.
2) Production automation tend to be also simulation based, but not by simple fixed mechanism. Robots will generate a tool path by itself through algorizm based simulation. Radio wave steel plate line heating system, prototype already developed by IHI, is an example which bases on simulation of deformation by heat.(Refer to Fig.9) Thus craftsman based production to be changed to computer integrated simulated system.
