ABSTRACT
Here we explore three applications of wavelet analysis. The first application is in the area of adaptive numerical methods where wavelets are used to choose numerical grids adaptively. The second area is to use wavelets to detect errors in computational models. Once the errors have been measured then one can use this information to decide on weights for assimilation of data. The third application area is to use wavelets for signal processing to detect the occurence of ENSO in SST data from 25 degrees north to 45 degrees north.
1 Introduction
Let us begin with a brief outline of wavelets including a few definitions.
