WELCOME NOTES
Welcoming to Triangle98 Symposium in Kyoto
September 29, 1998
Ladies and Gentlemen, and Chairmen
My name is Masahiro Endoh of JAMSTEC, Ocean Research Department.
On behalf of the Japanese host (JAMSTEC) for this Symposium in this beautiful city of Kyoto, I would like to express my sincere welcome.
We are very happy to be able to co-sponsor this Symposium with Frontier Research System for Global Change (FRSGC) and International Pacific Research Center (IPRC).
Let me introduce very briefly why this symposium is called Triangle for those who are wondering by any chance.
This figure shows, geographically, processes in The Pacific/Indian Oceans (including the Arctic ocean),
which forms a triangle in the JAMSTEC Triangle observational programs.
To understand what is happening and what will happen in this triangle, to suggest efficient ways of observation, analysis, modeling, are, I hope, goals of this 3.5 days discussions.
Please enjoy the meeting
Thank you very much.
Please let us know whatever we can help you.
