12.2 RCDS should be connected to systems
providing continuous position fixing, heading and speed
information.
13. PERFORMANCE TESTS, MALFUNCTION
ALARMS AND INDICATIONS
13.1 RCDS should be provided with means
for carrying out on-board tests of major functions either
automatically or manually. In case of failure, the test
should display information on which module is at fault.
13.2 RCDS should provide a suitable
alarm or indication of system malfunction.
14. BACK-UP ARRANGEMENTS
14.1 Adequate back-up arrangements
should be provided to ensure safe navigation in case of RCDS
failure.
.1 Facilities enabling a safe take-over
of the RCDS functions should be provided to avoid an RCDS
failure developing into a critical navigation situation.
.2 A back-up arrangement facilitating
means for safe navigation of the remaining part of the
voyage in case of RCDS failure should be provided.
14.2 Back-up requirements are listed in
Appendix 3.
15. POWER SUPPLY
15.1 It should be possible to operate
RCDS and all equipment necessary for its normal functioning
when supplied by an emergency source of electrical power in
accordance with the appropriate requirements of chapter II-1
of the 1974 SOLAS Convention.
15.2 Changing from one source of power
supply to another or any interruption of the supply for a
period of up to 45 seconds should not require the equipment
to be manually re-initialized.
