MATTERS
Geodetic Datums
2.1 The Group considered NAV 43/7/4
(IEC) concerning problems with the use of geodetic datums
and considered that it would be appropriate to issue a SN
circular containing
recommendations/guidelines with respect to the safety aspects
of the use of different datums. Some further information on
datums is given in annex 1. Members were invited to provide
their comments and proposals thereon for NAV 44.
RCDS
2.2 The Group prepared draft
performance standards for Raster Chart Display Systems (RCDS)
(NAV 43/WP.2, annex 2) and were of the opinion that a SN
circular should be prepared with regard to guidelines on the
safe operational use of RCDS. A draft was prepared as given
in annex 2. Further information on the limitations of RCDS
vis a vis ECDIS may be a useful addition. Members were
invited to provide comments and proposals thereon for NAV 44.
Sound Reception Systems
2.3 The Group noted that it had
completed draft performance standards for Sound Reception
Systems during its meeting at NAV 42. These are reproduced in
annex 3. Members were invited to provide any further comments
and proposals thereon for NAV 44.
Night Vision Equipment
2.4 The Group noted that the
development of performance standards for Night Vision
Equipment will be an agenda item for NAV 44 following a
decision by MSC 68. Two relevant papers had been submitted -
NAV 42/7/1O (Germany) and NAV 43/13/3 (United Kingdom).
Members were invited to provide comments and proposals
thereon for NAV 44.
3 ITU MATTERS, INCLUDING
RADIOCOMMUNICATION ITU-R STUDY GROUP 8 MATTERS
Radiolocation Systems
The Group noted that the ITU-R
Study Groups have generated a new question (Q.216/8)
concerning the technical compatibility of radionavigation
systems and radiolocation systems. One item to be studied
will be the introduction of radiolocation systems into the
band 2.9-3 . 1 GHZ which is widely used by marine radars.
Members were invited to generate an IMO view on this sharing
issue and provide comments and proposals thereon for NAV 44.
4 ACTION REQUESTED OF THE
SUB-COMMITTEE
