この度の太鼓チャリテイコンサートでは、私ども笹川記念保健協力財団をはじめWHOや世界の救らい団体の支援を受けて国際的な活動を続けているIDEA(共生、尊厳、経済的向上のための国際組織)に対し特別のご支援を賜り、心より感謝申し上げます。
当財団は、1974年、世界のハンセン病制圧を目指して設立されました。財団発足時には、世界の患者数は、1000万人以上といわれておりましたが、幸いにして1980年初頭に導入されたMDT(多剤療法)の出現により、現在では、100万人にまで減少しております。1991年WHOが決議した「2000年までにハンセン病を制圧する」という制圧宣言が現実のものとなるに至っております。しかし、今もハンセン病にまつわる根深い偏見と差別の問題がその背景に残されていることも事実です。IDEAは、ハンセン病回復者の人間としての尊厳回復のために1994年に発足したハンセン病回復者を中心とした世界的組織ですが、今後、これらハンセン病制圧後に残る回復者の「社会的治療」への取り組みがクローズアップされることになります。
本コンサートを通じて一人でも多くの皆様に趣旨をご理解いただき、より一層のご支援を賜れば幸いに存じます。
I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your kind support for IDEA,a non-profit international organization assisted by Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation,WHO and other NGOs.
Our Foundation was established in 1974 with commitment to the "Elimination of Leprosy" as main objective. In 1974,the number of persons affected by leprosy(Hansen's Disease)was estimated over ten million.Fortunately,with the introduction of Multidrug Therapy(MDT),the number has been reduced to one million today-a big step towards WHO's global campaign of 1991,"Eliminaton of Leprosy as a Public Health Problem by the Year 2000”.
However, the prejudice and discrimination against Hansen's Disease patients still deeply remains in the public. IDEA was established in 1994 as the first global organization run by former patients themselves. "Societal Therapy" will be our next key aim upon achieving the "Elimination of Leprosy" goal.
I hope that today's concert will further enhance your understanding and generous support of our activities.
