Ships and marine technology - Pilot accommodation ladders
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies pilot accommodation ladders, hereinafter referred to as "ladders", used for embarkation and debarkation of ship pilots in combination with the pilot ladder (ISO 799) when the boarding height above the sea surface exceeds 9 m. The ladder and its platforms are designed to either be fixed in the outrigged condition at 55。?o the horizontal, or adjustable in the outrigged condition through a range of angles not to exceed 55。?o the horizontal. The design presupposes a maximum of three persons simultaneously on the ladder during operation. The pilot accommodation ladder is not intended for any purpose other than embarking or disembarking pilots unless the ladder also meets the requirements of ISO 5488.
2 Symbols (and abbreviated terms)
L = Nominal length of ladder, being the length (m) between the centre or top eye pin and the centre of the connecting pin of the lower platform (see Figure 1).
B = Breadth of ladder, being the effective breadth of the tread (see Figure 1).
T = step spacing tangential to the step noses.
W = the distance between the stanchions defined as minimum space for free passage.
3 Classification
The ladders shall be classified into two classes as given in Table 1 according to the primary material used in their construction.
4 Construction, Shape and Dimensions
The construction, shape, and dimensions of the ladders shall conform to the requirements in clauses 4.1 through 4.8. Figure 1 shows a typical example.
