(5) It is considered that the molybdenum phase is selectively worn by the attacking effect of the counter surface by small asperities of the super-hard spray coated ceramics and by the abrasive effect of foreign matters such as free wear debris.

(6) As a result of the statistic processing of the data on the surface roughness of the worn surface, the peak of the roughness distribution curve of the normally worn surface in which the initial break-in condition is completed is sharp, and projected parts are small in number. On the other hand, the peak of the roughness distribution curve of the worn surface in which abnormal wear is generated is dull, and the worn surface is reduced in smooth surfaces. From these findings, the advancement of the break-in condition is considered to be the process in which projection tips are preferentially cut off, and it is presumed that the break-in condition of the composite material of ceramics and metal is advanced in the similar process to that of metal.
