(1)　"He can't treat people the way he does."

"He can't … the way he does."　で、｢彼はあんな風に、あんなやり方で…してはだめだ｣と言う意味。この場合の　"can't …"　は｢…してはいけない、だめ｣と言う意味。相手に忠告するときは、主語を　"You"　に変えます。

ある友人の話題。　"Joy"　ときたら、お昼に飲み始めて延々と飲み続けるの、と言う相手。何と言ったらよいでしょうか?

相手…　"Joy starts drinking at lunchtime and goes on and on."

私…　"She can't drink the way she does."
