We have sequenced the entire 2.2 Mb genome of the hyperthermophile Pyrobaculum aerophilum. We have putative identifications for approximately 500 genes based on similarities to characterized genes in the public databases. This analysis reveals, among other things, the presence or absence of important repair systems found in humans and in bacteria.
