Fisheries Research Vessel WAKATAKA MARU
Built at Tamano Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES), the fisheries research vessel WAKATAKA MARU was completed and delivered to The Fisheries Agency of Japan in March 1995.
The purpose of the vessel is to proceed with intermediate and long-range basic research on marine life resources and oceanic environment so that necessary measures to guarantee and control reasonable utilization of marine life resources can be taken.
Features
1. The vessel has been equipped with the most advanced research and observation apparatuses.
Further, stern type bottom and surface/intermediate layer trawling equipment and automatic trawling system which indicate the best way to trawl have been adopted.
These equipment and apparatus can be remotely monitored and operated from the bridge.
2. Onboard LAN system and data collecting/management system based on the latest computer hardware/software techniques has been adopted, in order to have more improved information processing capability.
3. All practicable measures, for reducing noise and vibration such as vibration isolation and sound insulation for main and generator engines, due consideration to propeller design, floating floor, etc. have been adopted.
4. For accurate research and observation, automatic heading control, relative position keeping, returning to predetermined position and speed control system have been adopted. The above operation can be done by manual joy-stick control system, if so required.
5. Advanced integrated bridge system (IBS) has been adopted so that monitoring/control of deck machinery and radio system can be done from the bridge.
