18,800m3 LNG Carrier S-150
In April 1997, NKK Corporation delivered S.S. S-150, an 18,800-m3 LNG carrier, to Asia LNG Transport Sdn. Bhd., a joint venture company formed by NYK Line and Malaysia's Perbadanan Nasional Shipping Line Bhd.
The vessel has reliably transported LNG from Malaysia's Bintulu LNG terminal to Sendai LNG terminal of Sendai City.
Gas companies in medium-sized cities in Japan that are switching from conventional energy sources to LNG plan to use small LNG carriers to import LNG directly to their own terminals from export terminals in Southeast Asian countries.
The S-150 uses a TECHNIGAZ MARK ? membrane cargo containment system with three stainless steel tanks in her holds. This system comprises a corrugated stainless membrance (primary barrier), an aluminum foil-glass cloth composite material (triplex as secondary barrier) and polyurethane foam panels to prevent structural tank distortion and to prevent leakage of LNG in the event of an accident.
TECHNIGAZ MARK? type LNG carriers have the following major advantages :
1) A space-efficent, compact hull form and flexible choice of optimum tank size and shape, offering high economic efficiency;
2) Flat deck configuration affords good bridge visibility;
3) Excellent maneuverability due to a small windage area;
4) Higher safety and strength ensured by a complete double-hull structure.
