With this powerful bond between medicine and the humanities established by Sir William Osler, I bring to a close this short journey which I hope will have informed or rekindled your minds with a few of the works of this great physician and great humanitarian. (Slide) The mystique of Osler will live on as long as any of us speak of Osler's work or practice medicine with his high ideals and it strengthens the universal brotherhood of medicine. (Slide) There are Osler-like physicians in almost all hospitals. They represent the competent physicians who make the patient their first priority. They are those who enjoy serving, teaching, living and learning about medicine and their patients, which is necessary, and those physicians who place a high priority for the humanities, which enable all to be more well rounded and to have a full life for themselves and their patients. We continue to remember and honor Sir William Osler because his deeds and works portray what is best in the humanities and medicine. Osler's appreciation and use of his classical education helped him to develop the educational skills to engage, stimulate, charm or inspire his students. Mankind is truly better that he has lived. It has been a great honor, pleasure and joy to be with you.
