3. Nasal Resonance (Reforming of Nasal-Congested Speech)
Students become aware of their somewhat nasal-congested speech about the time they are able to produce simple conversation.
This is because the voice does not reach the nose, meaning it does not pass through the nose. Pinching the nose and speaking, completely blocks the nasal cavity and the passage of air. Pinching the nose, read the following examples:
・ Kaminari wa iyanamono
Pinch your nose, and then say,
Kabidari wa iyadabodo
・ Kaminari ga gorogoro natteruyo
Kabidari ga gorogoro dadderudo
This makes the articulation of these words worse.
So, what is to be done to remedy this nose-congested voice and improve resonance in the nose?
During the initial stage of esophageal speech study, when voicing "a," only a very limited part of the inlet of the esophagus vibrates as the new glottis, without air reaching the nasal cavity.
As the speaker becomes more proficient in esophageal speech, the range of vibration of the new glottis expands, air flow speeds
