5. INDONESIAN EXPERIENCES : COMPILATION OF STATISTICS ON ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES
The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) of Indonesia has published "Environmental Statistics" annually since 1982. The structure of this publication based on the framework for the development of environmental statistics (FDES)'. In addition, the CBS has also initiated to publish natural resources statistics in 1996. These both publications provide rich information about the state of environment and natural resources (stock and flow) from which environment indicators can be constructed. Furthermore, the CBS and the State Minister of Life Environment have also conducted an exercise by compiling "Natural Resource Accounting" and System Integrated Environment and Economic Accounting (SEEA) for several selected commodities that are forest, oil, gas, coal, and other mineral resources. As an example in this paper I would like to present the natural resources for oil and gas.
5.1. Natural Resources for Oil and Gas
In Indonesian economy, oil and natural gas play a significant role. Their contribution to gross domestic products (GDP) are accounted around 15 per cent in 1990. Even though in the last few years their share decreased, but still counted larger compared with the other. In 1996, their contribution recorded at around eight per cent. Meanwhile, the share of oil and gas in export total of Indonesia also showed declining trends from 43 per cent in 1990 to be around 24 per cent in 1996. Similar case can also be seen in the share to domestic revenue (Table 3 Appendix).
There is an indication that besides the condition of global markets and the quota of export from the OPEC countries, which affects the export of oil, but more diminishing reserve also causes it. The result of calculation show that it is predicted that in the next fifteen years the crude oil will be exhausted. Meanwhile, natural gas that their role has begun to increase since 1978 will also be exhausted in the next forty years. At the end of 1995, the oil reserves are recorded around 8551 million barrels.
