Of the total 778 functions, 423 are in the field of "information supply", 175 in "human resource development and training", and 92 in "popularization and enlightenment", in that order. Facilities which function as "information bases" account for 81.7% of the total, and those in the field of "human resource development and training" 33.8%.
The number of functions has increased by 124 over the previous year.

The situation regarding opening of base facilities each year is shown in Table l9.
The number of facilities is increasing steadily every year and the number has increased by 61 compared with the previous year.
