FOREWORD

Offshore deep water development is progressing in full swing all over the world. Record water depth drilling and production is being seen in steady pace. Structures that are receiving special attention in these developments are the floating offshore structures.

This trend is continuing in this year's Offshore Technology Symposium. A large number of papers deal with floating moored systems including risers and cables. Other areas receiving special interest at the symposium include ocean wave analysis and hydrodynamic analysis. In general, the response this year has been quite enthusiastic. A total of about 95 papers will be presented at the Offshore Technology Symposium. The subject matter is varied and includes the following topics:

Ocean Wave Mechanics, Computations of Hydrodynamic Forces;

Offshore Structures Design; Structural Mechanics; Risers and Cables; Floating and Moored Structures; Ship Dynamics; Jackets & Tension Leg Platforms, Ocean Energy Technology.

The development of the symposium sessions is a culmination of enthusiastic, and volunteer efforts of the session organizers. This year there has been a special effort put forth by the Japanese Session organizers.With the help of their reviewers, the session organizers have ensured that quality papers are presented at this conference. The conference organizing committee recognizes and acknowledges their efforts.
