PREFACE
This Project was executed by finance from The Nippon Foundation as"Transportation Infrastructure Modernization Plan Support Project in the Developing Country" of the 1997 fiscal year.
This Study is intending to define the improvement of the infrastructure of railway network on Jakarta Metropolitan Area, the Government of Republic of Indonesia,especially for new railway system along Bekasi Corridor under the Japan Transport Cooperation Association, its Study Program in Fiscal Year 1997/98. Field survey along Bekasi Railway Line was carried out by the Study Team during September and October 1997 and this Study Report is summarizing the main results of field survey,information and data obtained from the Government Agencies concerned during the Study Team had visited in the Republic of Indonesia.
With a great cooperation from the Government Agencies, especially from the Directorate General of Land Communications and Indonesia Railway Public Cooperation (PERUMKA), the field survey by the Study Team was successfully executed on the Bekasi Corridor for about 40km route length between Tanah Abang and Cikarang and it is realized that the Quadruple Tracking on Bekasi Railway Line is urgently necessary in order to accommodate the increasing number of train by the future traffic demand on this Corridor.
Also along the Cikampek Tollway, a large scale of development projects for industrial or housing area are under progress, such as Cikarang-Krawang Industry Park and Cibitung Industrial Area (MM2100), and the future demand for transportation system between Jakarta and this industrial areas also will be expected with the very positive potentiality.
Based on the above facts, it is expressed that necessity for the Quadruple Tracking on Bekasi Railway Line is a matter of great urgency for the railway transport system surrounding Jakarta Metropolitan Area.
