Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of intra-articular injections of 30 mg of Sodium Hyaluronate and 3mg-betamethasone in an open randomized trial.
Methods: 40 patients with gonartrhritis were randomly allocated (evaluated) in 2 different groups of 20 people. All subjects included in the study were female with mean age of 57±7.8 and 61±9.5. Injections were administered intra-articularly once a week for three weeks. All patients suffering from inflammatory knee osteoarthritis were examined prior to and after the study. Differences in the efficacy rates between the two treatment methods during subsequent examinations on the 4th, 5th and 15th weeks were noted. Joint flexion, morning stiffness, VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) pain, radiological severity of dysfunction according to Kellgren Lawrance index were also assessed in both groups.
Results: Both medications (drugs) were well tolerated with no complications. Results in the 4th week were in the favour of betamethasone group. However there were clinically significant differences in favour of Sodium Hyaluronate (Orhovisc) treatment group on the 15th week evaluation. According to results of our long-term follow-up study comparing the efficaccy and tolarability rates between Sodium Hyaluronate and Betamethesone, we concluded that Hyaluronate injection group was more effective than the Betamethesone group in the long-term follow up for the treatment of osteoarthritic knee joints.
Key words: Hyaluronic acid, bethamethasone, intraarticular injection.

TO USE CPM MACHINE TO PREVENT POSTOPERATION STIFFNESS OF KNEE JOINT WITH 399 CASES REPORT
Hou,Ximin (Qindao 2nd People's Hospital, Qindao, China)
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To use CPM machine to prevent postoperation stiffness of knee joint after lower limb bones and joints were injured and operated.
METHOD: The patients were treated using CPM machine twice everyday. It took 4 hours to treat them everyday. The time of one of the course of treatment was 2 weeks.
RESULT: 391 patients were treated. The effective rate attained 98%.
CONCLUSION: It was the authors who first selected the CPM machine to treat the patients whose bones and joints injured or postoperated in order to prevent the joints stiffness according to theory and mechanism of CPM machine.
