PM&R EDUCATION AND PRIMARY HEALTH CARE

Tyrone M. Reyes, M.D. (Santo Tomas University Hospital, Manila, Philippines)

PM&R, as practiced in developed countries, is a specialty that is generally acknowledged as multidisciplinary, high-tech, and hospital-based. Physiatrists are perceived as physicians who treat complicated patients utilizing sophisticated equipment at tertiary hospitals. However, in many developing countries of Asia, physiatrists practice as primary care providers in non-hospital settings for non-surgical neuromusculoskeletal disorders.

The implications of such realities to the undergraduate education and postgraduate training in PM&R in these countries will be discussed. Opportunities exist to utilize such paradoxical situation in enhancing the status of PM&R in the undergraduate curricula and in adding variety, interest and challenge in its residency training programs.

Abstract: This presentation is an "insiders view" of the factors necessary to get your manuscript published in a journal. Participants in this session will get a clearer perspective on what editors want to see in a submitted manuscript. Items discussed will range from the overall concept of research design and manuscript organization to simple hints on formatting and following the journal's instructions to authors. The most common errors seen on submitted manuscripts will be cited and suggestions made on how to avoid these errors.
