Dear Dr. Ducusin,
Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation dispatched Dr.Jun Matsumoto for the period 20 July -24 August, Professor Hajime Matsuda and Professor Kazuo Yasuraoka for 3.2j August to the Philippines to collaborate with the DOH and regional and provincial staff involved in schistosomiasis control in 0riental Mindoro and Bohol. Dr.Yuichi Chigusa was sent not by the Foundation but by Japan Society of Promotion of Science for the period 20 July to 12 August.
The major instruments provided from the Foundation for the D0H and Oriental Mindoro SCT are:
(l) One(1) unit dissecting microscope (Nikon), and
(2) Fourteen (14) sets of science videotape ''SNAIL FEVER,' Parts I and II.
1. Oriental Mindoro
1.1 Use of ultrasound technology to assess morbidity
The use of ultrasound technology at the village level to assess morbidity was started in Victoria and Naujan, Orientai Mindoro. The US examination was done in a total 0f 215 cases, 42 in San Narciso, 47 in San Pedro, 97 in Malabo and 29 in Poblacion III. Results the US findings will be analyzed in relation to the results of stool and serum cxaminaltions (egg positive, hepatitis B and C, GOT, GPT, AI-P, gamma-GPT, blood ammonia levcis, and ELISA).
