The Federation of World Volunteer Firefighters Associations was established on December 1, 1982, as a global organization of volunteer firefighters from all walks of life who selflessly fulfill the duty of fighting fires day and night to protect the lives and property of their countrymen.
Each year firefighters in the Federation come together under one roof at regional meetings or general conferences held all over the world. In addition to strengthening international exchange and good-will, they actively promote activities such as the exchange of technology.
On another note, I am proud to announce that the Federation is now truly an international organization. As of April 1996, the Federation counted members from 145 nations and areas. Also, it is the first organization in the field of fire fighting recognized by the United Nations as a non-governmental organization, or a DPI/NGO.
I hope that the Federation of World Volunteer Firefighters Associations will continue in the future to encourage members from every country to deepen mutual understanding and to support each other. Thus, we can greatly develop and expand our circle of volunteer firefighters.
In ending, I would like to extend my best wishes for the greater prosperity of all nations and for the health and safety of volunteer firefighters.
