I was very pleased that our Life Planning Center could sponsor the Second Asian Pacific Hospice Network Meeting (APHNM) on Feb.21 and 22, 1997 at the St. Luke's International Hospital and the Peace House Hospice (Nakai, Kanagawa), and the International Hospice Forum on Feb. 23,1997 at the St. John's Memorial Hall in St. Luke's College of Nursing in Tokyo.
The First APHNM and Forum were held on March 3 and 4, 1995 in Japan and were attended by seven delegates from seven countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, and Western Australia, who have been recognized as leaders in the field of hospice care in each country. On the first day we discussed how to develop the Network for promotion and research of hospice care in Asian Pacific Region followed by the International Forum on things the Japanese hospice community can learn from hospice advanced countries in Asian Pacific Region on the second day at the United Nations University in Tokyo. Both Ms. Joy Brann (Western Australia) and Rev. Takeshi Saito (Institute of Hospice Studies) had acted as secretaries for this network meeting and forum.
The recent Second APHNM was attended by eleven delegates from nine countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Korea, New Zealand, and Western Australia plus two Japanese delegates, Dr. Tetsuo Kashiwagi (professor of Osaka
アジア太平洋地域ホスピス連絡協議会（APHN）の第1回会議ならびに国際フォーラムは、日本において1995年3月3日、4日にわたって行われ、所属地域での各国のホスピス活動の代表者としてインドネシア、マレーシア、香港、台湾、シンガポール、ニュージーランド、オーストラリアから7名の参加がありました。その第1日目は、今後アジア太平洋地域でのホスピス活動の普及と研究のためのネットワークづくりの基礎を作るための協議がピースハウスにおいてもたれ、第2日目は、国際連合大学（東京）において「私たちはホスピス先進国であるアジア太平洋地域の国々から何を学ぶべきか」をテーマに、国際ホスピスフォーラムが催されました。この第1回の協議会は、Ms. Joy Brann（オーストリア）とピースハウスの教育研究所斉藤武部長が幹事役をし、プロシーディンクを発行しました。
