In addition to this provision of hardware, efforts are also being made to enhance disaster prevention awareness through practical disaster prevention drills and disaster prevention education, so that residents will be able to behave appropriately in an earthquake.
In a major earthquake disaster is widespread, with multiple fires breaking out simultaneously so that it is virtually impossible for fire defence forces and volunteer fire corps to attend to every fire. It is important for each resident to bear in mind that self-protection starts with the individual, and to act accordingly.
In the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, it took some residents time to react to the disaster.
The ability to react in a disaster must be trained through constant consideration of anti-disaster measures, and the learning of anti-disaster skills through education and drills.

2 What to do in an earthquake

When an earthquake strikes, it is very important not to panic but to behave appropriately in order to keep the damage to a minimum.
This is what you should do in an earthquake;
(1) Stay calm and protect your body
Shelter under a desk or a table.
When you feel the first shock, shelter under a solid desk or table and wait until the tremor subsides.
