disaster countermeasure activities for wide-area disaster in the Southern Kanto Region. At present, relevant government offices and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government are working on the plan.
(2) Improvement of the Disaster Prevention System and Enhancement of Awareness of Disaster Prevention
A. Establishing a Disaster Prevention System based on the Operational Plan for Disaster Prevention The organizations which prepare the Operational Plans for Disaster Prevention would take countermeasures according to the Plans in time of earthquake disaster.
Designated Administrative Organs and Designated Public Corporations prepare disaster prevention systems by providing, in their Operational Plans for Disaster Prevention, countermeasures which would become necessary once disasters occur. Those countermeasures include reporting by designated personnel, establishment of the headquarters for disaster countermeasures, collection and communication of information concerning the disaster etc., emergency countermeasures for rescue and medical support, a wide-area cooperation system, etc.
B. Preparing a special version of the Local Disaster Prevention Plans specifically for a time of Earthquake Disaster Earthquake disasters are different in nature from storms or floods. Therefore, the National Government is instructing local governments to prepare a special version of the Local Disaster Prevention Plans to deal with earthquake disaster.
