Leprosy, with its pleomorphic skin and neurologic manifestations, may be mistaken for some other disease; or some other skin disease or neurologic disease, mistaken for leprosy. However, the diagnosis of leprosy can be made if one or more of the following cardinal signs of the disease are present. These are (1) loss of sensation, (2) enlargement of nerves, and (3) presence of acid fast bacilli. However, the possibility of the presence of multiple diseases should always be kept in mind. The following are some common and uncommon skin diseases that may be confused with leprosy.
