Recently, the performance of construction machinery has been improved very well and its automatization and robotization as well steadily progressed so far. However, divers works in the port construction works stillcontinue its conventinnal manual works which are considered to be inefficient, dangerous. andvery hard. On the other side, large port maintenance works are being developed in offshore and very deep waters. For that, effects of wave on floating work barges and effects of water depth on divers make its work environment severer.
In this development, a commercialized backhoe was adopted in which its engine was replaced by an electric motor and water proof measures were employed in each part of it and finally a manned operation type underwater backboe was put to practical use.
This report describes the outline of its development, the result of its demonstration test, the record of its performance in construction works, and its underwater execution control equipment.
