Chapter 5 Reference Items in Implementing Transport Time Reduction in the Northern Line
5.1 Planning of train
(1) Number of daytime limited express trains
This preliminary study has discussed possible shift to the new limited express trains by the transport time reduction, and estimated a substantial increase of demand for passengers. However, because the total traffic volume is just based on the expected increase of population data obtained, other factors such as economic growth and sightseeing must be considered in order to calculate a required traffic volume. (See subsection 5.5.)
Our low estimation based on the above population increases has suggested that 3 roundtrip services of 6-car trainsets per day will be necessary. Thus, gradual increases of services would exceed this step someday along with an increasing number of train operation services.
(2) Transport capacity of the Northern Line
In the present condition of the Northern Line transport, no particular problem is found to operate a number of additional services of daytime limited express trains. In order to add train operations, increase of double track section is necessary to boost transport capacity, considering an increase of other types of train operations.
When the track elevation project being constructed in Bangkok is completed, a boosted and improved service for commuters will be required also for SRT in parallel with the new commuter line. In particular, coordination with these commuter trains of SRT must be studied otherwise. However, daytime limited express operation will be capable.
(3) Number of trainset
The number of trainset, which corresponds to train diagram, must be calculated. A
