4.5 Maximum speed to be applied to high-performance body tilting car

The maximum speed when a high-performance body tilting car is introduced into Northern Line is synthetically studied mainly from the following viewpoints and used as the prerequisite for calculating time reduction.

- Present situation of railway transport through Northern Line (Chapter 3)

- Performances of high-performance body tilting car

- Measures required to introduce high-performance body tilting car (The above Items 4.3 and 4.4)

- Experiences of speedup on narrow-gauge lines accumulated in Japan

- Information for bearing capacity of track collected in Japan

4.5.1 Maximum speed on curve

(1) Contents of study

(a) When a body tilting car travels on a curve section, there is no problem for the improved riding comfortableness. However, because a large lateral force is applied to a track, study is performed by particularly considering the following.

- Records and plan of curve maintenance

- Structural strength of track

- Track adjustment level and synthetic power of track maintenance

(b) It is assumed that the measures for curve and track mentioned earlier are executed. (4.3 and 4.4)

(c) Cant and traveling speed

The maximum value of actual cant is set to 90 mm same as the existing value. Moreover, a cant deficiency to be adapted to the condition of Northern Line is assumed for each curve radius in accordance with various pieces of
