4.3 Measures necessary for high speed running

4.3.1 Preparation for curve conditions

How the traveling speed on a curve is improved by introducing a high-performance body tilting car is mainly determined by the standards and adjustment level of the curve. The maintenance state of the curves on Northern Line is almost at a high level. By taking the following measures, it may be possible to maintain stable train running and track maintenance at a considerably improved speed.

(1) Adjustment of curve circularity

In the operations at work site, a excellent state of curve adjustment is shown after a curve is adjusted. Make study so that the above excellent state can be maintained with a certain increase of curve adjustment work if necessary.

(2) Maintenance of curved track

It is necessary to keep the adjustment accuracy of track-surface together with the curve circularity. Though it may be almost possible to provide the current high-grade adjustment level by the reinforced tracks, measures should be taken for part of track structure (4.3.2). And, reinforce maintenance to a certain extent according to necessity for future study.

(3) Raising of superelevation

Raise superelevation for some part of curves having no actual superelevation suitable for the new traveling speed. Generally frequent objects are shown below.

- For R=1,000 m frequent on flat land area, raise the actual superelevation up to 70 mm.

- For sharp curves in mountainous area, raise the actual superelevation up to 90 mm.
