Table 3-3-1 indicates the number of cars by different types. Only 7 steam locomotives are kept although they have not been in operation since 1976. Passenger trains are pulled mainly by the locomotive. However, the number of diesel rail car seem to increase in the future because they are easier to change the forwarding direction and to separate and joint them, in addition to their high-speed operation.

Unit: Number of cars
(2) Overview of the cars
1) Diesel locomotive
The number of diesel locomotives reserved by the SRT is 290 in total. The breakdown includes 217 diesel electric locomotives and 73 diesel hydraulic locomotives. By output power, 171 (majority) electric locomotives have 2,000 to 3,000 PS, while the remaining electric locomotives have 1,000 PS or so. 54 diesel hydraulic locomotives have 1,200 to 1,500 PS, while the remaining diesel hydraulic locomotives have a small power horse and are used for shunting locomotives.
These locomotives were manufactured in Japan, USA, Switzerland, France, and Germany. The Japanese locomotives have least troubles.
