This study was intended in respect of the Northern Line of State Railway of Thailand, to search for a transport system to significantly reduce the time required for transport by daytime limited express train through the above line, and to help improve the transport service in the line section.
1.2 Outline of study work
With regard to Northern Line which is one of major railway lines in Thailand, we conducted a preliminary study for the possibility of reducing transport time and improving the present state of transport by grasping the actual state of transport and then by utilization of high speed technology in Japan on a meter gauge. The survey and study were executed roughly classified as follows:
(1) Actual state of Northern Line
The actual state of Northern Line objective of our consideration and relevant general condition in Thailand as well as the State Railway of Thailand are clarified by survey.
(2) Way to reduce transport time
The transportation capacity of Northern Line has been intensifing through the track rehabilitation and the double tracking work. In addition to above conditions, body tilting cars that have capacity to increase significantly the running speed in curved section as well as high performance running on straight section will be introduced. With other necessary measures to be added, total hours currently required for running through Northern Line, i.e. 10 hours and 40 minutes, is expected to be shortened to a large extent.
(3) Possibility of time reduction and measures required
The measures related to time reduction for daytime limited express trains are
