Yanmar developed the world's first compact horizontal diesel engine in 1933. Since that time, the company hasrelentlessly continued to pursue its commitment to improving the performance of diesel engines. Yanmar diesel engines are currently being used in a wide range of applications, and those for use as marine generator engines have acquired a special reputation for reliability and durability.
Although marine generator units play a key role in assuring a vessel's safe passage, increasing demands are being placed on it and the generator system due to modifications in recent ship's interior spaces, and needs for more automated operation with less maintenance.
Fuel costs are also taking a larger share of the total vessel operating costs, and therefore demand is increasing for a diesel generator that can run on the same heavy fuel oil as the propulsion diesel engine.
In 1983, Yanmar introduced a line of highly fuel efficient 360 to 2,000 kW diesel engines that could run on 380 cSt/50。? heavy fuel oil. In 1985, a new series of engines in the same power range was introduced with the ability to run on lower grade 700 cSt/50t heavy fuel oil. Since then, Yanmar has been conducting follow-up surveys on the ships that use these engines and using the acquired data for further improvements.
Using the vast experience gained from the development and application of these engines, Yanmar has developed the new 6N18(A)L marine generator diesel engine. This new-generation diesel has been designed with painstaking consideration paid to the real needs of the maritime industry.
The new 6N1 8(A)L engine is the culmination of Yanmar's long experience and expertise in diesel engine design with its knowledge of both the actual needs of the maritime industry and the latest engine development and manufacturing technologies.
