The maternal mortality rate is correlated to the clean water utilization (see F
igure 2). You do not see a straight line in this case. The maternal mortality r
ate does not go down any more after the clean water utilization goes beyond a c
ertain level, from a critical point onward. That is, there is a lower limit the
maternal mortality rate can go down.
Figure 3 shows the relation between the female secondary rate and the clean wat
er utiliza-tion. The female secondary education rate represents those women who
have undergone a secondary education, that is for the ordinate and the clean w
ater utilization for the ab-scissa. The relationship is invert to the previous
one in this case. So the higher the edu-cation is, the higher you have the perc
entage of clean water utilization.
