I believe that the best way we can respond to this warm friendship is to work
hand in hand with all citizens of Kobe for the reconstruction of the city at a
n earliest possible time. The City of Kobe has taken the opportunity of this e
arthquake to work towards a pioneer city through conversion of industrial stru
cture and improvement of citizens' Iife and welfare. We are convinced that thi
s effort will bear fruit and result in strong resur-rection of the City of Kob
e.
Reconstruction is the hope and mission of all of us in Kobe. As we intend to p
our all of our energy into reconstruction by seeking a path that will enable u
s to work together with the countries and cities of Asia towards mutual develo
pment, your assistance will be very much appreciated.
I would like to conclude my speech by praying for the success of this meeting
and the health of all of you who are here today. Thank you very much.
