IHI Marine United Inc. was newly established on October 1, 2002 as a result of divesting Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI)'s shipbuilding and offshore businesses. The company is a merger of its naval ship-related business, which formed from an earlier merger between IHI and Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (SHI), and Marine United Inc., another consolidation of its engineering and commercial arms.
Reflecting the need to meet the demands of an ever-changing business environment, its corporate objective is to respond quickly to customer needs with incise decision-making backed by an efficient organization that enjoys the powerful support from its parent company, IHI, in areas of technical R&D and other expertise.
The company continues to provide hardware and software products as well as services to meet the long-standing criteria inherited from IHI to contribute to the development of the world through various technologies in the marine industry.
The company will engage in shipbuilding activities where its skilled tradition is supplemented by further challenges toward enhancement of technical expertise to ensure customer satisfaction in terms of performance and quality, while considering environmental impact. The naval ship-related business has further consolidated its foothold in terms of skill and technology through its integration between IHI and SHI, which has been enhanced with key human resources retained from both companies.
The company sees its future in the opportunities the marine industry provides for the development of marine and associated logistics, offshore development in energy and other resources as well as other forms of utilization, including the usage of spatial expanse.
