Day 01 (09th and 10th September 2006)

We started our journey from Henrik Smith Hostel, Malmö at 11.15 am on Saturday 09th September 2006. We took train at 12.22 noon to Copenhagen from Malmö central station. It reached to the Kastrop airport at 12.50 and all of us checked in and boarded to the air plane at 15.20 hrs. It was a very long journey and flight took about twelve and half hours to reach Japan. Actually we landed in Japan at 09.30 hrs Sunday. We really lost seven hours from our time as we travelled from west to east. This is a strange experience. Mr. Ichikawa was arrived the airport to welcome us.

We have been arranged a bus with a guide and a translator and we directly went to the Museum of Maritime Science. We reached there at 11.30 hrs. First of all we reached to a conference hall in Museum of Maritime Science and we have been introduced Mr. Eisuke Kudo; managing director of OPRF, Mr. Hidemasa Tagami; General Manager - Maritime Technology Department by Mr. Ichikawa and we have been given brief introduction about The Nippon Foundation & OPRF. It helps me to understand the importance of these organizations.

After the briefing we had our lunch from the restaurant inside the premises. That was our first experience in Japan respect of Japanese & Chinese mixed stuff. It was really a delicious lunch and everyone enjoyed well.

Just after the lunch all of us feel fresh breeze from the Tokyo Port site and next started a orientation programme. It gives us the scope of The Nippon Foundation and OPRF and it was not as we thought and provide vast humanitarian service all over the world in respect of social, educational and health services.

Just after the orientation programme a tour about the museum was started. Museum has arranged so that to see the development of Japanese maritime sector from the ancient time to the modern era. It helps us to sharp our theoretical knowledge by experiencing practically.

Finally we came to the hotel at SHIODOME, Villa Fontaine. That's all about the day.

Day 02 (11th September 2006)

We left the hotel at 09.30 hrs and reached to the Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport at 10.00 hrs situated in 'Kasumigaseki'. We have been given brief introduction about the ministry and divided into three groups. At 10.30 hrs we were addressed by the director. After the speech of the director three groups were directed to different places. For our group (Group C) held three lectures.

01 Institutional arrangements for port operation and management
02 Japan coast guard
03 Port state control activities in Japan

We left the ministry after those three lectures and came back to the hotel.
Again we left the hotel at 15.l5 hrs and reached to The Nippon Foundation. The most expected time was encountered at 16.30 hrs, ie honourable Mr. Sasakawa's arrival. Mr. Sasakawa and other important persons address the gathering and closed it after the exchange of souvenirs.

The reception party was organized at 18.00 hrs and many diplomats including Mr. Sasakawa were presented or the occasion. It was very interesting and proud ceremony and all of us perform our WMU song at that occasion. The reception was ended at 20.00 hrs and we were returned to the hotel.

This day begins our trip earlier: 07.30 hrs. On our way we passed Tokyo tower (333 m height and used 4000 tons of steel) and Yokohama bay suspension bridge which is the second biggest in Japan.  From 10.40 hrs to 11.50 hrs we observe underwater three dimention shaking table, concrete exposure test area, simulation tank for oil recovery in marine situations and large hydro geo flume. Out of these arrangements the hydro geo flume was very attractive and curious.
