Conclusions
Intersection signalization and geometry
affect:
-Safety,
-Orientation, and
-Independence
of pedestrians who are blind.
At complex signalized intersections
Accessible pedestrian signals MAY be
required to facilitate
・Safe,
・Well-oriented,
・Independent
travel by pedestrians who are blind.
Stay tuned
・Accessible pedestrian signals have now been installed at all 6 intersections.
・Similar street-crossing data has again been obtained on crossings by 16 pedestrians who are blind in each city.
・Results are being analyzed and will be presented at a forthcoming meeting of the Transportation Research Board.
